A Letter to Dad

Dear Dad, I miss you so much. I’m still sad that you left but it wasn’t up to me. I guess God had other plans for you. He knew you were tired of the pain and agony of being in the hospital. He knew you hated being poked and prodded, and the doctors constantly running tests on you. I felt your pain. You wanted to be at home, but God wanted you in His heavenly resting place, so you would have real eternal peace in His home.

I want to hear your voice and hear one of your crazy stories about the guys you worked with. You always knew how to make make me laugh. I miss your encouraging words when I was having a bad day or going through rough times.

This is the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. With God, I know I’m going to be okay.

You’re better now. Not a worry or care in His arms. That brings me some solace. The memories of you, and the good times we shared comforts me always.

The Point of No Return

Pack a bag and go far far away. Never to return. Live in place of unfamiliar faces, smells and sounds. Free. Free. Far away and Free. I am free from the race that will never win. On some eat pray love, nomadic type of shit.

Free from a world of demands and noise. Free from unrealistic expectations. Letting go, flying away. Free to be whatever I want, wherever I choose. Never to return. Reclaiming my peace, my space, my way, wandering to never wonder again.


3 Simple Ways to Beat the Blues

Shit happens and life is hard. I know all too well. Anything and everything can disturb our comfort and peace of mind — Money problems, family stressing you out, health issues, relationship drama, job dissatisfaction…list goes on.

We get down and out and sometimes, and guess what? It is absolutely okay to have “a day” or two. It is okay to feel like you want to throw in the towel. Cry? Yes. By all mean let it out. Crying is cathartic and you’ll feel better and refreshed, after the snot bubbles have cleared and the puffy face has gone down.

However, it seems as if when one issue is behind you, another one pops up. The next thing you know, your attitude is stank, we are snippy with anyone that ask a questions, and you just don’t want to deal with life. Ever! Not to mention, our alcoholic beverage of choice becomes our best friend in the whole wide world.

But I’m here to tell you…when you are down in the dumps, there is only one way to go, and that is UP! Just because your circumstances seem to be piling up and the days have become a personal shit show, there is light.

Getting back to your happy self is do-able and it doesn’t necessarily require psychotherapy or anti-depressants. Here are Five simple ways to beat the hell out those blues:

1. Get up and get out of the house
Clear your head. Go to the park, a museum, catch a movie, or meet up with a good friend for lunch/brunch.

2. Dance baby!–
If you didn’t know, music is theraputic. Compile a fun dance party play list and start downloading. Listening to upbeat happy music will stir up your soul and can change your outlook on life.

3. Service
Volunteering to help someone is a great way to beat the blues. It’s no longer about you, it’s about helping someone else. You will shift your focus to someone who perhaps, is less fortunate than you. Your service does not have to be to the poor. Maybe you have a family member who is elderly or disabled and could use a hand around the house or need you to run errands. There are a plethora of ways to give your time and service. Seek out a non-profit organization who is needing volunteers, donate old clothes to shelters, find your local meals-on-wheels to deliver meals to the elderly, some libraries hire volunteers, and area food banks always need sorters. I guarantee, you will forget all about why you’re having a bad day.

Remember, someone always has it worse than you. That’s not to say you are not entitled to be down. You certainly are. However it’s up to you to pick yourself up, change your perspective. Make the decision to be responsible for your happiness. Every day.
